Overview

Many people are unsure and feel awkward when interacting with a person who has a disability because we do not know what to say or how to act. This seminar helps to reduce the fear of doing or saying something “wrong,” while providing basic tips for interacting with people who have disabilities so we can get to know others more. This seminar is for anyone, with or without a disability, who wants to learn more about interacting more effectively with people who have disabilities

Learning objectives

Participants will learn to:

  • Define disability in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Recognize the various types of disabilities
  • Explore attitudinal barriers to working collaboratively with people with disabilities
  • Develop appropriate disability language in the workplace
  • Build skills to interact appropriately with people who have disabilities
