A respectful workplace is created when people feel safe in their work environment. Everyone has a right to feel safe at work and we are all responsible for creating a safe and respectful workplace. The bystander effect is a social phenomenon where the presence of others can discourage an individual from intervening against a behaviour of concern. This program goes through the communication skills needed for an individual to become an upstander, and intervene if they notice another struggling with negative impact of disrespectful workplace situation
Upon completing this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Define the terms commonly associated with respectful relationships in the workplace.
- Identify how employees, clients/customers and others can be impacted by both bystanders and upstanders.
- Demonstrate communication and self-care skills needed to be an upstander by using scenario based discussion activities.
